Although botanically it is a softwood, Pacific Yew (Taxus brevifolia), has hard, fine-grained wood that turns and polishes beautifully. The tree is native to the Pacific Northwest, and is the original source of the cancer drug Taxol.
The long slender handle of this scoop displays a nice contrast of creamy sapwood and golden brown heartwood. Both are dotted with small dark knots.
Finish: Oiled and buffed.
